Bulimia Nervosa

Bulima is an equally serious life-threatening disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating associated with some form of purging.  The purging takes on several different forms : fasting, self-induced vomiting, excessive exercising, and excessive use of laxatives or diuretics. 

Individuals with bulimia tend to be of average weight.  They usually do most of their binging and purging secretly, and often have rapid weight gains and losses.  Individuals with bulimia also tend to isolate themselves as they engage in the binge and purge cycle.  Many people who develop bulimia have a history of chronic dieting.
