Compulsive Overeating
Contrary
to popular belief, compulsive overeating is part of the eating
disorder continuum. It
is characterized by an individual’s inability to control their
food intake. For these
individuals, food takes on the role of filling a void that can only
be filled by the recognition of the individual’s deeper needs.
Compulsive
overeaters tend to eat alone, feel ashamed of their body size, and
feel guilty about their eating behaviors.
Dieting is often used as a weight loss method which proves to
be ineffective in the long run.
The quest for thinness is associated, among others, to the
search for happiness. This
disorder can be resolved by the acknowledgement of deeper issues and
the integration of a diet-free lifestyle and philosophy.
